Why Cats Make the Best Housemates

Cats have a remarkable talent for making a home feel lived in.

They claim the warmest spot on the sofa, supervise every task from a nearby shelf, and somehow know exactly when you need a quiet moment of company. Unlike most housemates, they do not ask to borrow money or leave dishes in the sink—although they may knock a glass off the table just to keep things interesting.

Living with a cat also teaches patience. You learn that a closed door is a personal insult, that a cardboard box is more exciting than the expensive bed you bought, and that dinner should always be served five minutes earlier than yesterday.

Of course, cats are not simply entertaining. Their calm presence can make even an ordinary day feel a little better. A purring cat curled up beside you is one of life’s simplest comforts.

They may act like they own the place.
